PROMINENT MANHATTAN ELECTEDS ENDORSE EXPERIENCED DEMOCRATIC DISTRICT LEADERS FOR RE-ELECTION

76th Assembly District Leaders “represent the best in democratic principles”

January 23, 2025 (NEW YORK, NY) – Leading Manhattan elected officials U.S. Rep. Jerry Nadler, State Senator Liz Krueger, Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright, and City Council Member Julie Menin have thrown their support behind the Four Freedoms Democratic Club (FFDC) slate of District Leaders seeking re-election to continue their work strengthening the local Democratic Party.

The four endorsed incumbents are Rebecca Weintraub and Ben Akselrod, who currently serve Part A of the 76th Assembly District, and Kim Moscaritolo and Gabriel Panek, who represent Part B. FFDC, the sole Democratic club in the 76th Assembly District, and one of New York City's largest and most active political organizations, formally endorsed the slate for re-election on January 9th.

"The Four Freedoms Democratic Club's District Leaders have consistently demonstrated their commitment to our democratic values; their continued leadership is essential to strengthening our party's grassroots organization," said Congressman Nadler. "I've worked alongside Rebecca, Kim, Ben, and Gabe and seen their effectiveness firsthand. Ben Akselrod's leadership in fighting antisemitism across our city and expanding accessibility within the Democratic Party, and Rebecca Weintraub's work as Co-Chair of the County Judiciary Committee exemplify the kind of leadership our party needs. I'm proud to endorse their re-election this June."

Under the incumbents' leadership, FFDC has successfully implemented numerous reforms within the Manhattan Democratic Party. Kim Moscaritolo, who chairs the New York County Democratic Committee's Finance Committee, established and leads the County Committee Task Force, which has successfully enacted multiple party reforms. Rebecca Weintraub, as Co-Chair of the County Judiciary Committee, works to diversify the judiciary and improve the judicial selection process. Gabriel Panek has brought significant changes through his work on both the Rules and Ethics committees. While, Ben Akselrod, the youngest District Leader in the county, has shown extraordinary leadership at the county level and within the Club, leading petitioning and community engagement efforts.

The 76th Assembly District covers the east side of Manhattan from 61st to 92nd streets stretching from Third Avenue to the East River, and includes Roosevelt Island. Part A includes Roosevelt Island and Lenox Hill up to 79th Street, while Part B represents Yorkville from 79th Street to the district’s north end.

"All of the District Leaders from FFDC have been doing an excellent job for our community and represent the best in democratic principles," said State Senator Krueger. "I am proud to again endorse them for re-election."

"The Four Freedoms District Leaders have been invaluable partners in strengthening our local democratic process," said Council Member Menin. "We've worked side by side on voter outreach, petitioning, and community organizing efforts across the Upper East Side. Their dedication to expanding civic engagement and deep understanding of our community's needs sets them apart. As we prepare for another election season, I'm proud to endorse this experienced team and look forward to continuing to work with Rebecca, Kim, Ben, and Gabe to serve our constituents and neighbors."

District leaders serve as essential bridges between communities and the Democratic Party, managing poll site operations, selecting judicial nominees, and working to increase democratic participation across their districts. These unpaid volunteer positions represent the grassroots foundation of local Democratic Party operations.

"We are incredibly proud to endorse Ben, Rebecca, Kim, and Gabe for District Leader," said Four Freedoms Democratic Club President Jerry Ferguson. "Each of these candidates has shown their deep commitment to building a strong and engaged Democratic Party. We can't wait to get out there and make sure that all four candidates win this June."

"As FDR once said: 'Let us never forget that government is ourselves.' For over 10 years, FFDC has galvanized civic participation and built community on the Upper East Side," said Assembly Member Rebecca A. Seawright. "I am pleased to endorse their full District Leader candidate slate, particularly my friends Ben Akselrod, Kim Moscaritolo, Gabe Panek and Rebecca Weintraub. They will embody the important values of grassroots leadership from FDR's poignant reminder."

The primary election will be held on June 24, 2025, with early voting available to all New Yorkers from June 14 to June 22. You can find your poll site here: https://findmypollsite.vote.nyc/.

Rebecca and Ben will kick off their Part A re-election campaign with a fundraiser on Tuesday, January 28 at 7:00 PM at The Pony Bar (First Avenue at 75th Street). For more information and to RSVP, visit: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/friends-of-akselrod-and-weintraub-1.
